Re: Phono3 new build hum
Can you take some images of the cart on the record so we can sort of see how the cart is sitting not easy I know but may help?
If your dealer set up the VTA using a 180g test disc unless all your vinyl is 180g your VTA will be out as most standard vinyl is much thinner a 150g or less in general ?

Re: Phono3 new build hum
With respect I think this is going down the wrong avenue. The cartridge sounds fine through my Marantz PM KI Pearl Lite. Pretty good sound. Building the Phono3 was supposed to take me to another level. So far, it is different, but not better.

Re: Phono3 new build hum
With respect, setting up the vinyl 100% correct may well tip the balance towards Phono 3.

Re: Phono3 new build hum
Yes I agree with Colin and Philip, the phono 3 is now letting you hear just what the cartridge is producing, it arguabley is better than the Marantz, and until you put a good signal into it you will never know just how good it is, lets also not forget your speakers which are very reveling and will show the rest of your system for just what it is. If I was you, I would remove the Oscon capacitors and see if that tames the sound, if that dose not help, try lowering the arm pillar so that the back of the cartridge sits just below the horizontal, this WILL HELP remove siblance. Linn Products had an advertising statment a few years ago, GARRBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT. it is very true. BOB, very happy with WD products. .
