In all of what has happened I realise that I have not mentioned one of the reasons for begining to think about exploring smaller volume cabinets.
I have mentioned it on another thread but it should really be addressed here. Many of the well designed small speakers I have heard have fantastic imaging. Linn Kans would be an example of this although I'm not keen on their other traits. I have also heard some small speakers which were in 6in cube boxes which consisted of a single 3in driver. Although there are limits to the frequency extreames which these speakers the imaging was some of the best I have heard. Why this would be I'm not sure, maybe its a virtue of the enclosure size or possible something to do with interaction of mid and low frenquencies that muddy imagining. I would guess that baffle step along with many other physical aspects of an enclosure can cause all sorts of phase anomolies in the lower midrange. Also making something thats more WAF friendly means I get a much easier time of it.
