Re: KEL34 making safe to work on
The only exception to my knowledge is Quad, all inputs and outputs were right at the top and left at the bottom, but most if not all are reversed. Bob

Re: KEL34 making safe to work on
Quad, Leak and Radford had/have Red speaker posts on top going back to the 1950’s. The only reason I can think of is that ground is at the bottom as in this attached Leak pic marked with chassis ground.
Both the present WD amps KEL84 and WD88VA have Red speakers posts on top and red right inputs on the bottom the same as Quad 405-2 and 606 etc. The low profile Quad 306 may be the one you are thinking of Bob which has the 4 speaker sockets in a line and LR the other way around (correct viewed from the rear whereas 405/606 and WD88VA are correct viewed from the front). |

Re: KEL34 making safe to work on
A interesting observation, but ever since Greg called me Rude and Arrogant and I responded to his comments, he has not logged on, some 14 days has past since, I at the time almost clicked onto the red triangle but instead responded to his comments, he now seams to have done a disappearing act, I shall not hide the fact that I dislike his sometimes, hostile remarks but, we do not want to loose members, dose any one know what has happened ? Re: KEL34 making safe to work on
Hi Malcolm, How's the rebuild going? The badges look nice, did you buy them or make them, I can't recall them from WAD, maybe speaker badges?

Re: KEL34 making safe to work on
Hi Malcolm, Richard
Yes, I would also agree with Richard that the badges look nice. if you made them could you post details on how you did them and if you had them made for you could you let us know who you got to make them As I for one would be interested in making them for my new WAD phono III that I am building up with a custom case and would like to add on a badge with the WAD logo and others on the forum may also be interested in this as well colin

Re: KEL34 making safe to work on
Just a thought gents, but if they have been made by any other than Matthew or his authorised contractors, are they in breach of copywrite ? Bob

Re: KEL34 making safe to work on
I don't know where these badges came from - so it's quite possible they're not "reproductions" - in which case there is no breach of copyright. However, if they were being produced from scratch, Bob would be right and there clearly would be.
So it seems a good point to state my attitude about intellectual property rights: Rights relating to World Audio Designs (and obviously World Designs, too) are technically protected and belong to World Designs. I am usually happy to allow use of anything "heritage" (ie that we don't currently supply) on the simple condition that it is not used for commercial gain. I would, however, always prefer to be asked first! I hope that clears things a little. Matthew |

Re: KEL34 making safe to work on
My bad. I have now emailed Matthew and he has OK'd it. The badges were made for me as a 'one off' special, only the 2 were made in readiness for my repainted KEL34.

Re: KEL34 making safe to work on
I've stripped the amp down and repainted the chassis and transformer covers. The Hammerite looks more 'bumpy' than I remember it to be.
Stripped old board and new one (quite possibly the only one left) Can you spot any differences? The first is an early proto board and the new one was final revision.
