Crossover components rolling ?
Just to see if anyone has tried using other types/makes of caps or even resistors in their WD25TEx crossovers. Mine are in external boxes and was just wondering......

Re: Crossover components rolling ?
Well, The stony silence has taught me the error of my ways.
Besides before doing anything stupid I should be sure that mine are working as designed and I have just realised that the splodge mix of tissue paper and diluted white glue that I fixed both my unstuck woofers voice coil formers´ with, must surely have compromised their sound as the mass of their cones must have been increased by around 20%. So I have just bought 2 new drivers from Falcon and hopefully will be fitting them in the course of next month. Well, that´s my auto Xmas gift sorted. Anyone need a pair of cone less drivers ? |

Re: Crossover components rolling ?
That could be the way to go, cone-less loud speakers. BOB

Re: Crossover components rolling ?
Which, combined with box-less speakers means we should get out more to live concerts.

I couldn't agree more, but there's the price of a good concert.

Re: Crossover components rolling ?
When (and if, fingers crossed Mr. Deliveryman) I receive my new drivers from Falcon I will post to say if I notice any real difference, although of course , I´m sure I shall - they´ll doubtless sound 165 quid better.

Re: Crossover components rolling ?
Hi Van et al,
One of the main "problems" with L/S crossovers is keeping the cost down hence the use of electrolytic caps instead of paper/polypropylene ones. As most elcos are ±20-50% tolerance this can give strange results. I am of the opinion that it is always a good thing to replace these elcos with closer tolerance types as above, if you can afford it! I found with my IPL STL5s that it tightened things up a lot. Re: Crossover components rolling ?
Hi John,
I believe the Soniqs PXX caps that came with the WD25T kit are polyprops but thanks anyway. Maybe measuring them, just to see their real values might be a good place to start. Chris |

Re: Crossover components rolling ?
Hello Chris,
As they already have decent caps, if there are any resistors in the crossover you could try replacing them with Mills resistors. I did this in my Tannoys about 6 months ago and was very surprised how much the clarity and detail improved compared with standard wire wounds fitted. Regards, Phil.
