adjusting gyrodec SE

Anyone familiar with adjusting springs of a gyro se turntable. I find it a bit cumbersome. Any tip is appreciated.
I know my turntable can produce better sound if adjusted right

Right, finished my steak sandwiches...

1. The three adjustable feet should be screwed in until they are firm (don't overtight until they snap!)

2. Ensure you have the deck on a level surface, use a spirit level to get this bang-on.

3. Now, the three adjustable springs are not-centred, they seem biased towards one direction, the secret is to get them working 'in harmony' with each other.

Get the platter level (use a small bubble level or spirit level), making enough clearance between the 'spider' and the 3 felt pads ( I have about 2mm or thereabouts)..The spring should still not really collide with the felt when you bounce gently.

Imagine if each spring was pulling away from the centre towards the outside of the chassis, this would restrict the 'bounce' which is easily checkable by pushing down at about 2'oclock on an empty platter. The platter should bounce up and down with no sway or 'strange' oscillation.

If you experiment with the 'pull' of each spring by rotating it, you can get a lovely, smooth, uninterrupted bounce. I got mine by getting the springs to pull as if each were pulling clockwise around the platter.

Now, the belt should be parallel with the groove on the platter, with the new spring set up, this is simple to adjust, although if you have the old gyro like me, you can move the pulley slightly up or down to get it bang on

Oh, and if you're using a rega arm, adjusting VTA is a pain..I had to replace the 3 plasric spacers below the arm board with washers until I got it right. I'm running a Goldring 1042 slightly tail down at 1.85g and the deck is singing its little head off..

I adjusted my gyrodec ... into ebay. got loads of dosh for it and bought a GL78. I have never regretted this move for a microsecond.

Blunt as ever, Andrew, but I have to concur, albeit I went Garrard which is not your thing. Still, good idler drive/direct drive has to be the way as best we know it to date. For all the belt drive developments coming day by day, nothing yet has claimed to do better than ID or DD. That's significant.
