High oversampling sounding good with analogue source?

Ok, again one of my threads, which probably will not generate any lively conversation.
Anyway, one interesting observation of a digi XO I've been listening for a while right now. It is 24/48 khz unit, with highish 256 times oversampling. Usually, I've not been any good friend of digital sources using high oversampling rates. They usually sound more or less Arcam, and that's not a good thing in my books

Now this new gadget from Meridian, MS, makes CD:s to sound pretty much as expected, that is, more or less crappy.
A real surprise has been its performance with analogue source. With TT, it is by far the most transparent XO I've yet been trying, shattering even the throne of the mighty BSS. Is that possible that high oversampling rates are more harmful to RBCD recordings than to analogue source?
This little thingie here is that awesomely good with LP, that it just makes me wonder.

I've always thought that CDs needed to sound more like vinyl and vinyl needed to sound more like CDs.

CDs do tend to sound harsh and I have always had a preference for CDPs with a passive attenuator on the output. You can quickly lash up an interconnect with a 50K dual pot on it and twiddle to suit your taste. This might help reduce the fatigue a bit.

Vinyl often needs the opposite which could be what your getting from the XO.
