A mate of mine has the Azur CD player as his back up listening front end. he is a primary Vinyl listener.

He bought it on the back of the rave write up in HiFi World. I have the AH! Njoe Tjoeb reference CD player that he was keen to compare with.

I took my player over to his and after listening to his Azur for a full CD we swapped over to my AH! After only 30-seconds of the same CD he said, "turn it off I heard enough. Yours trashes the Azur". So now he is not so impressed with his purchase and rarely plays discs on it.

To my ears the Azur was very bright and forward and a little thin sounding and very digital sound. Soundstage was good but the listen was not engaging and after half an hour I had tired of it. So it's a case of you spends your money..............

However, the money your Father-in-law spent he cannot grumble. He may benefit by getting some speakers to counter act the bright CD player.

I had an Azur cd player for a few days to try out.
Didn't rate it very much.
Bought a Pioneer dvd and saved £140. Sounds much nicer.
Maybe the cd player and amp will sound better together.

i recently took the azur cdp home for a dem. i had it for 3 days and against my s/h sony 303es it was a very poor showing. i was dissapointed as the build quality is excellent, especially the remote. my wife assisted in the dem and we both agreed that what was missing was an excitement factor. i don't know if this would have been down to me running it through my wad6550 but it just didn't cut it. i took it back and got a lite dac which has moved my cdp replay miles ahead of the cambridge and saved £100.
