New Tweeter for kef concertos
Afternoon All
I have a pair of the orginal kef concertos which I like alot, but am finding the tweeter (t27) lacking a little sparkle. to this end I have been looking at replacing it with a ribbon - such as http://www.madisound.com/pdf/fostexdrivers/ft7rprev.pdf what are the panels thoughts? Rob |

Re: New Tweeter for kef concertos
Hi Rob,
I have a great affection for the Kef T27 tweeter,is this partnered by the B110 midrange and B139 woofer? If so,i've got details (somewhere) of a kit transmission line using the same drivers Before ditching the T27's (which were good enough for the BBC after all ),i personally suggest you contact Wilmslow Audio, who,i believe,do a crossover upgrade for the Concerto's. Just my opinion, hope it helps. Regards Martin |

yes - I do understand that some may wish to run me over for saying the t27 doesnt sparkle - but to my ears, they dont. Falcon external xovers , rewired , bi wired ( all as per falcon ) as well as new internal wadding, damping etc.. Rob |

Re: New Tweeter for kef concertos
You could have a point Rob. The T27's (and the Concerto's!) are, like a lot of us(!), getting a bit old in the tooth now! As far as I remember, they never did have the "ear bleedin' treble" that so many of today's modern tweeters seem to have. No doubt that's why the Coles unit was often added. I would have thought the incorporation of a ribbon, without some tweaking of the crossover - an unwise exercise in my opinion - would completely unbalance the Concerto's response.

I was preparded to tweak the xovers. Else where it has been suggested that I get hold of a pair of either kelly or decca ribbons . then using the presant xover point (3.5k ) as a starting point. The speakers themselves have had very little use since their purchase in 1974 and have spent 90% of there life in a warm/dry room. I was the first to put a signal into them for some 25yrs! so they needed 'breaking in'. That now done - I couldnt ask for better mid and bass, its just the top end . Rob |

Re: New Tweeter for kef concertos
Rob,
Just a thought. Why not give Falcon a ring? They may be able to suggest a modern "drop in" replacement for the T27. As my Mother used to say "If you don't ask you won't find out!". John. |

Re: New Tweeter for kef concertos
Why not do as most monitor manufacturers did around the time of the T27, and enlist the help of a supertweeter to bolster the treble performance ??
