Re: wad 6550 hot mains transformer
I have mine on an intermediate shelf on my rack which has glass shelves. I keep worrying that it will melt the shelf above as it gets very hot. What a disaster that would be!
Ideally I would put it on the top shelf but that has a turntable on it. |

Re: wad 6550 hot mains transformer
Errr. Generally the melting point of glass is 1200ºC and up. I doubt if the temperature of the 6550C power transformer cover reaches 60ºC. With modern insulating materials core temperatures can easily be 150ºC so nothing to worry about.
A little sense is required here! John |

Re: wad 6550 hot mains transformer
When I first read it, I thought it was dramatic licence, or else you meant your "glass" was acrylic.

Re: wad 6550 hot mains transformer
It is possible to take things too literally, especially via SM and email etc. as you don't get the intonation you get with a voice. If I was that worried about it I wouldn't keep doing it.
However, now I have looked at the physics myself with the help of my friend Google, you only need to heat tempered glass to around 538C to un-temper it. But I think even that is beyond the reach of my amplifier so I am definitely OK. |

You're saying I could wind up tied in knots via SM ?
