Default Slow Adobe Reader 10 Fixed!

Hi all,

This has been frustrating me since the last Acrobat Reader upgrade to X or 10.

I noticed it was particularly slow if one pdf was open and I went to open another

The fix is here ;

Yep I have a copy of Adobe acrobat 6 pro pdf creator an very expensive bit of software although it didn’t cost me much at the time but it won’t run on windows 7 so annoying as you could read a create and edit pdfs all in one package

I've always been very happy using Adobe Acrobat. I've never had a problem and I'm happy with the efficiency.

I am still on Adobe Acrobat 9. I've not yet received an update offer to X or 10. When it comes, how can I tell if the fix Richard refers to is incorporated?

this may help greg if you take a look in i the prefrences and untick the box

Open the reader, select Edit, Preferences then select Internet from the Categories. This should display the Web browser options page, untick "Allow speculative downloading in the background". This increased the speed of opening pdfs for me hope it helps.

Hi Greg, In version 9 go Help>Check for updates and you should get version 10.
The link I posted just explains the option of how to turn off "speculative downloading in the background" as Colin says. Just what this means I do not know but I posted the link as I think the poster in that short thread has the answer in that Acrobat 10 tries to connect (to Adobe?) every time you open it. Anyway simply turning that off fixes it great
