Turntable power supply

Hi-although i expect the 401 to eclipse my" belt drive special" turntable i would still like to build a proper power supply for it,and keep it as a "spare".

what i need is a nominal 2.4v dc with fine adjustment (say -10% - +20%)to set the speed spot on.

at the moment i am using a variable bench power supply but it is difficult to set the voltage with great accuracy.

can anyone point me in the right direction ?

i have a 6v transformer that i bought years ago and if i could use that it would be nice.

I'm interested in this too, as it was obvious how much better the Rega got with the my Heed Orbit PSU.

When I built a supply for the OL motor for the LP12 (I couldn't bring myself to pay OL that much for a DC supply), I just used a three pin regulator to give me the voltage, and switched between the PD to give 45 and 33 1/3 speeds.

Either of you are welcome to see if it works for your motor, meanwhile, I will try and remember the circuit.

i'm sure there's a lot more users who would be interested in this, or any psu design suitable for the Garrards.

Well, I think there are several Garrard designs, Mark tried one, but I don't think he was ever happy with it. What I am talking about is a DC supply for OL type motors. Maybe not usable for Rega's, though the idea of regenerating an AC supply sounds like a fun thing to try.

Reminds me of something I must get to try some time, a feed-forward type power conditioner, I need to do something to try and get my mains to look a bit more like a sine wave.

Hi-the motor i use is a video recorder motor (with pulley) and the power supply would be specific to this application ie a one off.

on the power supply i am currently using the display reads 2.4v when i am at 33.3 rpm and i dont play 45's.

The 401 certainly doesn't sound like it requires outboard regulation, which is why I would not buy a commercial design unless it was under £100.

The basic idea for the Garrard supply was a low distortion sine oscilator, driving a pover stage, then into a step up transformer. Regenerating clean stable 50hz.
