KAT88 low output from right channel
Guy's your help please.
I have a KAT88 and I fired it up the other day to find that the right channel was at a very low output. I checked it was'nt the input to the amp swapped the L/R inputs still the same. swapped all the valves L to R still the same. then I turned the wick up on the pre and if by magic the Right came back ok. I havent opened it up yet. I suspect a dry joint. I left it a few days and again the same problem low output on right. and again winding the wick up cured it. But you guys might know if a component is on the way out and point me in the right direction before I go chasing my tail etc. |

Re: KAT88 low output from right channel
I've been there also. I'd also suspect dry joint first.
Best wishes, Greg |

Re: KAT88 low output from right channel
Try poking the joints with an insulated stick of some kind on very low volume and see if you can find a dry joint by that means,
its probably in some part like a HT feed/ anode load resistor, as it gets hot it expands a little thus disturbing its position a lttle, try the input stage first, intermitant faults can be a pig to find, but perserverance pays off, any how let us know how you get on. Regards Acorn |
