Thanks Richard, I did buy some very flexible 5 core 0.5mm cable for my two PSU's umbilical cords, I remembered you doing such with yours, it dose make sense but have not got round to getting the plugs and sockets, too much time spent on prototype regulated HT, but I think I am there, almost. Bob

Richard, I have now got all the 5 pin plugs sockets cable etc, so I am thinking about this conversion and would ask what you did, HT pos, 0 volts, heater + and heater - are obvious, what about the earth lift resistor in PSU , did you remove it, leave it or what, I would like to think chassis earth and 0 volts should not be connected, comments please. Hi Bob,

Check me through on this as it’s a while since I did mine.

Disconnect the 0V HT link from the case earth posts in Pre and Phono leaving just the PCB 0V still connected to the socket.

Use the new 5th wire for Mains Earth by connecting it to the case posts on Pre and Phono and to the new socket pin.
(I used the middle of the 5 pins for Mains Earth and kept the same order as original for the 4 existing ones. That way the orignal wiring instructions can be followed and the extra Earth cannot be read the wrong way around.)

PSU case earth post is already connected solidly to Mains Earth and your new 5th (middle) pin also connects to the case earth post. Leave the lift resistor in place. All that changes in PSU is the new Earth wire goes to chassis post.

You should now have the usual way of earthing with all cases at Mains Earth and 0V HT stood off by the 100R list resistor.

It helps to use Green/Yellow for the Mains Earth and Black for 0V if you’re replacing them.

Final check with a meter

Hi Bob, are those prices for singles? I'm sure they were about that for a bag of 5 when I did mine. I wonder if they're going short/stopping them?

Both Farnell and RS prices are for one unit, RS is a little more expensive, but I use them, two of each, total eight parts cost me £54.08 , but it's only money and because I am not using any powered transport since November last year the bank balance has continued to rise, . Bob

Forgot to post on this, OK, so now I have two fully regulated HT and LT PSU's, one supplying Pre, the other supplying Phono III, wired as Richard suggested and all was good, after a few weeks I removed the 100R earth lift resistor and sat down to listen, no change on CD but, Phono is very quiet, later on I purchased two PCB's from John Broski in America and made a very nice job instead of a lash up, they have been working for almost 12 months with no problems at all, records sound so good as a result. Bob, your post is unclear to me and probably deserves its own dedicated thread. From what I know of your previous reporting on your kit, your preamp PSU’s are completely non standard being a different (from WD) linear design. I believe your Pre III is now a John Brosky Glassware Audio ‘Aikido’ buffer stage. Have you retained the basic Phono III?

You refer to the purchase of two PCB’s from John Brosky (Glassware). What are these and how have you used them?
