That speaker looks great. I hope it sounds as good as it looks. Well done!

The guy that sprayed them was a good friend. I just rounded the edges and did the grooves.

What a great looking speaker. Today I take delivery of some basic Audio Note AN-Js. If only these had been available commercially! Well done!

Cheers.
By the way, the idea of the grooves in the front baffle to try and "streamline" the boxes a bit was copied from one of the Troels & Gravelsen designs. |

Re: At last - my WD25TEx up and running.
After a week or so of passive listening (bad back), this weekend I intend trying to find the best position for my WD25TExs.
My first impressions are quite positive but I do find the bass a bit absent and far from "effortless" as described by other users. Mind you with my Sugden A21SE amp, Iīm not expecting power bass but I would like a bit more lower mid/bass I think. At present I really have to listen out to follow it as I always have done with my previous Totem Arros but now I have a 10-incher ! Anyway, Iīm wondering if anyone has anything to say about positioning - at present they are literally 2 inches from the back wall and I intend trying them further out say 6-8 inches to bring them proud of the bureau that I have stuck between them. Who knows ? P.S. I still havenīt sealed down the bass drivers with the gooey stuff yet. I will open them this weekend up just to check they are in phase and get rid of the tab connectors to finally solder them. Any thoughts about the stuffing - I lined them with acoustic felt on top of the gooey stuff - could that have been a mistake ? Last edited by VantheMan; 28th May 2013 at 11:30 AM. |

Re: At last - my WD25TEx up and running.
Well, I have now soldered the driver connections and ensured that the boxes are airtight using a weather strip as a gasket and fitting the gooey stuff between it and the brace - I suspect one of the bass drivers was not airtight because when I gently pushed it spreading my five fingers around the circumference it definitely made a rather disagreeable bowel sound ( Yes, I know a,e,i,o and u are vowels). Now its digestion is quite silent.
I prefer not to pass judgement until Iīve had a good listen this weekend. |

Re: At last - my WD25TEx up and running.
Keep listening. It should be acknowledged that Peter originally intended the speakers to be close to a rear wall to benefit from the 3dB lift in the bass that should cause. Of course the walls should be solid and not those of modern construction using plasterboard etc. He also advocated having something situated between the speakers such as a TV or even your system. When he demonstrated at Witham, he was happy to use a gymnastic floor pad.
