Output Transformer Question

Morning Guys

A friend has phoned me up with a question. On one of his amps, he took the covers off and spotted something that is bothering him. The OPT tx have 4 and 8 ohm, but on one it looks like on one the ground and the 8ohm are the wrong way around.

1. Is there an easy way to check this, he only has a DMM?
2. He does get slightly less volume with this amp (he uses what he thought was the Gnd + 4ohm connections). Would this explain it?
3. Would it cause a problem with either the speakers and/or transformer if he misconnected and used the 4 and 8 ohm connections?

BTW there is no feedback from the output connections so can't use that to try and check things out.

Hi Lee

1) If he has a fairly good digital meter capable of tenths of ohms he could compare the readings between the good amp terminals and those of the suspect amp. I'd expect 0-4R to be less than 0-8R and he could get those figures and one for 4R-8R to compare between the 2 amps.

2) Quite possible

3) I wouldn't have thought so, but would only try for a short while at lowish vol; presumably he's thinking of swapping connections to try volume? Also try the meter to confirm.
