Loudspeakers and other WD kit...
Hi Peter,
With regards the new kit - excellent! You have managed to get World-Designs to hit the ground running with a great looking loudspeaker kit and a superb article in HFW, congratulations to both you and Noel. As a user of Heybrook Sextets I won't be buying this kit, but I am looking forward to WD developing a broad range of kits and components. Best wishes, Matt. Re: Loudspeakers...
My pleasure Peter.
As you are about to have the WAD World and his wife (scrub that!) ask (or tell) you anyway, what else do WD have planned? Will you be purely valve in amplification? Will you be giving the 16 bit fellows their DAC and transport? Will you be doing a vinyl source 'thing'? Last edited by Lord.; 31st December 2005 at 12:05 AM. |

Re: Loudspeakers...
Still too early to give you all the details.
Certainly the valve amplification beckons as there is so much to be done there and the results are so promising. If we can find a way of making a 'good' transistor amp that isn't too complicated to build then we may look at that. I'm investigating a method of doing a vinyl source but it's going to take a lot of work. You'll have to be patient on that one, but it is on the list. I've seen the requests for a DAC. Again we're investigating how to bring something new to the question of 'digital sound'. I'd like to see a new appraisal of filtering but, again, it's going to take a lot of development. Having said all that, this forum and its projects are all about how to make hi-fi equipment that sounds 'better'. We won't be doing designs just for the sake of it - there will always be a sound reason (sorry!) for each project. I'm about to load a 'Wish List' forum, and hope that we can gather results using a poll. Should be interesting. |

Hah, someone behind WD who has a voice. That's a Novelty.
Only kidding, great to know there is a head on the shoulders. |

Re: Loudspeakers...
Yes, hopefully this will continue, the old BB tended to wander without any input from the people running the show.

Re: Loudspeakers...
I've had Sextets too - loved them !
However, what sensitivity are these new speakers? They are bookshelves? - Could plans be given to extend them bass and floorwards?? |

Re: Loudspeakers...
hi Peter, I have sent a pm wishing you well, hope you will have some time to answer a couple of points.
WE know the owners of the bb are busy, but one of the failings of the wad bb was that we never ever had input from the 'leaders' So once in a while, do pop your head in and let us know you are there

Re: Loudspeakers...
There will be a follow-up article which will explore the floorstanding option.

Re: Loudspeakers...
Please excuse my ignorance, but I would be extremely grateful if anybody could help me with the following query.
I am currently using £99 Kef Cresta 2's which to be honest, for the money sound great, although they have very obvious flaws in lots of areas. I am keen to try out the new standmounter kit and as my knowledge of speakers is almost zero I wish to know: What is the 'sound' of the new kit speaker like, if I were to compare it to my Kef Cresta 2's.?? Would it sound brighter or darker? Would the bass be tighter/deeper/better quality? How would the two options on treble units compare with the tweeter on the KEF's? Again, please excuse my ignorance but any info would be gratefully appreciated. Regards, Dave Happy New Year. Last edited by I love my records; 31st December 2005 at 05:29 PM. |
