Hello everyone,

Once again I'm asking for help. Ive just finished making my plinth using the lenco top plate from lenco lovers. However the platter is grounding on the top plate. Any ideas?

All help welcome.

Have you had the bearing apart ?

If the ball,or thrust plate are not as they should be the spindle will sit a bit lower and therefore the platter as well.

If all is well perhaps a shim under the thrust plate to raise it a gnats would be the answer (but a bit of a bodification).

...or mount the main bearing on the top of the PTP2 rather than underneath.

Yes but !

I think that would make the platter too high and then the relationship between the motor shaft, platter base and idler wheel would be wrong ?

When i built my belt drive special i had a similar problem using the Logic bearing and i solved it by machining a few thou off the top surface in my lathe.

You could do that with the lenco bearing of course !

You are of course right Philip. I think the PTP2 is a lot thicker than the original L75 top plate. Maybe it is this slight difference that is causing the problem. What have the other LL members who bought a PTP2 plate done Alex?

Wow!

5 replies in 30 minutes! I don't think mounting the bearing on top of the plate will work. I've fitted joels kit and the bearing was running fine on the original top plate but taking it to bits is mt next port of call. I thought I might try and put a 1p piece under the thrust plate to raise the bearing up.

I haven't posted on lenco lovers yet but i'll do next.

Thanks again,

Alex

If the new top plate is thicker than the original then others must have had the same problem.

If you wanted the bearing top mating surface machined slightly (to in effect, raise the bearing assy) i would do that for the cost of return postage if you give me a figure to work to (in mm).

I would still shim the thrust plate unless its more than 0.25mm.

hi,
or you could try a slightly bigger,, ball bearing,, in the bottem of the bearing,, depends on how much of a lift you need.

Alex,

Almost all has been suggested already
Though, you'd rather go for a washer or similar between metal disc and circlip
