How do you clean you stylus
I use the striker from a box of safety matches a tip from the hi fi answers mag about 20years ago what are you using now have you seen this stuff

I, too, used the striker from a box of Swan Vestas for a few weeks - until my stylus wore out!

You might think, as the original article implied, that a diamond stylus would not be bothered by the abrasive on a matchbox. This might be the case for a few applications, but an abrasive is still an abrasive, even up against the hardness of a diamond.

The sharp profile of the ellliptical edge of a stylus will, eventually, be abraded by this type of repeated cleaning it seems. So now I prefer a fluid and brush method.

I use a micro sponge cleaner from Wilkinsons called Erase Away, dip your tip in 4-5 times. Also good for stained cups.

Apart from the excellent Ortofon brush I use an Onzw Zerodust, it's goop that you drop the stylus into.

I never liked the recommendation of using scraping abrasives. For years I've used an Audio-Technica AT637 electronic stylus cleaner. A vibrating pad coupled with some Iso- alcohol for 20 seconds periodically leaves the stylus completely clean and not damaged. In my view, the best option available.

Absolutely the only device for cleaning a stylus and recommended by many cartridge manufacturers from AudioNote to Ortofon to ZYX is the Onzow Zerodust.

You gently push the stylus into a gel-like substance and it actually plucks dirt off. For most dirt a single application is all you need but for real crud a few goes and it's clean. I use one after every few tracks it's brilliant and you hear the difference.

Well I started this thread in the intrest of stylus care it seems you all have your favourite ways as I am starting to get my vinyl back up and running again I think I will go for the zero dust method this time
I always meant to get a Audio-Technica AT637 electronic stylus cleaner can you still get these I did have a zero stat static gun though… £6.00 back then £35 now jesss douse anyone still use this gun now I cant believe the prices of these accessorises now

I use a carbon fibre stylus brush - seems to do the trick ok.
Bought it in Practical Hi-Fi last year for £12.00.
