Default remotes for pre4

Just wondering how you guys find the volume control on the little remote for the pre 4 ? does it give enough fine control ? or does it drive you round the bend like some manufacturers remotes ?

Don't really understand the question, do you have a Pre 4 or are you looking to add a remote to a different Pre amp ?. Bob

I'm not sure how many forum regulars have the Pre4 with the WD remote control board?
Ok given Bobs question, I'll assume you've got a pre4 and you're not happy with the RC or the way it performs.
I replaced a cheap n Cheerful chinese eBay board and control for the pre4 job in my totally non standard pre4. It's based around the pre matthew prototype casework and I had to do some lateral thinking to get the thing to fit and to work as the mountings and holes for the LED indicators etc didnt match up. So on that basis any of my critique may not have any relevance.
I found the coding system used interferes with gear using the Philips RC4 code which is a sod if you have Arcam, older marantz, rega and probably a few other brands of equipment.
Also the samsung tv remote sends the volume control moving whenever any bloody button is pushed.
This of course could be down to a problem induced when building the board up so I won't dash to denigrate the WD remote system.
I ain't keen on the wee credit card sized RC handset though, it's fiddly and at times easy to push the wrong button with my sausage fingers. I've got a programmable handset that I may just clone the WD commands to.
So my findings may not be relevant, if you're having issues though I'd suggest you check the board for any dry joints etc. I am not sure but I wonder if the programmed chip for the board is easily damaged by static discharges etc. Easy to do when fitting and connecting up.

Andy

Perhaps we mis-read the question.
Do you find it by checking first down the back of the sofa or x-raying the labrador?

He has not come back to clarify, but I think he might be considering getting one, and wants to know the "user experience" or whatever the phrase is.

My understanding of the question is that hifinutt has found many remotes change the volume up and down too quickly, making for overshoot and so difficult to get the volume just where he wants it.

Phil.

It's quite obvious that Hifinutt is not interested. Bob
