Ah t' would bring a tear to a glass eye so it would.....
I just wish it would hurry up and reach the north east of Scotland so I can get my hands on some quality new pressings...... Best...

Re: Vinyl on the rise
interesting
can we now expect all the major record companies to delve into their back catalogue and start re-releasing vinyl

Re: Vinyl on the rise
Hey just think!
If the major companies get in on the vinyl revival perhaps we will see a return to the good old days of wafer thin warped, dished **** sounding pressings! We could even get back the off centre hole wow factor that will make a mockery of our 401s SP10s and Lencos. The K-Tel Crew rides again! (Doesn't bear thinking about) Steve

Re: Vinyl on the rise
Good god, is that really how it's done? I've spent the last 20 years working in a semiconductor wafer fab, where part of the process is to cover 6", 8" or 12" disks with a coating of laquer. Since the dimensions involved are fractions of microns, cleanliness is the be-all and end-all, and we regularly achieved less than one one-micron defect per square centimetre, by the use of a clean-room environment, and robotic handling. For me, watching that video is a bit like watching a brain-surgeon operate using a flint axe, with the patient lying in a mud-bath! How do they ever manage to achieve a silent surface?
Admittedly the economics of the record industry could never permit the sort of investment needed, but CDs are produced in the same sort of environment as simiconductors, so it's not so far-fetched an idea, surely? Looking at that, it really brings home how much better vinyl could be that it already is. |

Some of the techniques seem more appropriate to farming carrots so I too feel there's more that could be done.

Re: Vinyl on the rise
I'm scouring the net to try and find a video of a coater track in action. No luck so far...
