Re: Phono Shoot Out Winner
Winner of the phono stage shoot out was Nick.G's S&B LCR based stage shown here. Expensive, but well worth it, especially when played through his pre and power amps.
Not shown is the power supply. You can just see this to the far right of the picture of Nick.G's power amp; it's on the floor next to the speaker. |

Re: Phono Shoot Out Winner
Nick's was best, it's one I've looked at before and decided it was too costly. I'll have to think again!
I'm a little relieved mine didn't win, I'd have felt guilty if I'd not passed on the trophy to Andrew! Due to Nick there was no chance of this so I didn't have to face this dilemma. Well done Nick! Cheers, Clive |

Re: Phono Shoot Out Winner
I agree about which phono stage was the winner.
Overall the 'do' was marvellous, interesting and good to meet you all again. But ........ no one has mentioned the box of bits that Peter connected up nearly at the end of the day. I thought it was stunningly good; clarity, depth presence and hugely detailed and ....... at least a very good second place. It was solid state !!!! horror of horrors. It wasn't featured in the main part of the day but whereas I was sure that Nick, then Andrew's with S&B transformers were tops, now I am not so sure. No one else has mentioned it on the BB so maybe it is a proof that I really do have cloth ears. |

Re: Phono Shoot Out Winner
I think most had left by then Andrew. You also never got to hear my fantastic sounding Rotel 970!

Re: Phono Shoot Out Winner
IMHO ...
Rotel wha'! ;-) ???? It was about the time of the white noise, I think, that we changed speaker cables to Greg's Cat5s, which really hit the spot. The white noise was respectable but perhaps, sounded 'solid state'. Andrew's brew and Nick's brew were noticeably superior. So, of those who were still there to hear Peter's prototype, whadyyarekkon? |
