Phono II - which step up tx?
Hi all,
I happily own a PreII - PSU - Phono II & KAT 6550 (with Proac 2.5 clone and SA-963). I now bought a Thorens TD160, Linn Basik Plus and put my sumiko pearl on it; fine sound but now I would change to an MC cartr. so I need the step up txs 1) Please do someone can tell me which one to buy and if their mounting is somewhat different from the original WAD ones? 2) If you are so patient to tell me where to buy them on line, too. 3) Please, do someone has some fine mods to suggest to be applied to the Phono II? (lins are very well welcome!) Thank you Luca Italu |

Re: Phono II - which step up tx?
We will either be putting the WAD ones back on the World Designs catalogue shortly OR we will be designing step up transformers to suit.
If you don't mind external transformers the S&B ones worked superbly at the Phono Shoot Out (see Gallery). |

Re: Phono II - which step up tx?
Hi Luca,
There are several types currently available from Sowter (UK) Lundahl (Sweden), S&B (UK) and Jensen(US). It will depend on what cartridge you have as to what load and step up ratio you require. Generally most MC cartridges require a 10:1 stepup but some low output ones (eg Ortofon Rohmann) require a 20:1. Regards John ak Dr John |
