Mine was Chickory Tip too. I still have it somewhere. The first album (tape) was Obscured by Clouds by Pink Floyd. I've moved on a long way since then!!

I don't know why I'm contributing to this nonsense - I really should get a life but I have been reminded that my earlier reference to Dinah Shore was not my first record as supposed. For reasons long (mercifully) forgotten, I previously had acquired a shellac disc of an unremembered artist singing "For all we know".

This had contained the breathtaking lyrics;

"We won't say goodbye until the last minute,
I'll hold out my hand, and my heart will be in it".

At which point my mother exclaimed "What a disgusting thing to do!"

I gather that this has been revived a few times but my copy was from before the war. Like me.

Although I wrote in Jan 2006 (blimey!) that my first was Bowie, all this Chicory Tip remembrancing reminds me that Son of My Father may have been my first or second record. Good flip side too - Pride Comes Before a Fall IIRC. Was the follow-up single Good Grief Christina? I went off them with that one. Fickle 11 year old I suppose

Bloody hell, i remember that b-side! It's playing in my head now, having just dislodged Kenny Rodger's 'Ruby'. Saved me from death by C&W, yer did!
Must admit that i don't recall the follow-up single. They have their own website, by the way.

Sadly, I knew that Chicory Tip have their own website! I looked last night when trying to remember the follow-up single. I mean, it's not as if it were the Floyd or Led Zepp.

If you want to dislodge Pride Comes Before A Fall from your head let me know and I'll recommend some Partridge Family songs.

Top of the POPs 1972 on Ktell label....

Traks included The yellow rose of Texas and A white sports coat....

I was only five at the time but I remember the anticipation; waiting on the Dansette I had blagged from my mum, warming up. The tinkle of those ECL83's......

The first record I remember buying was Gilbert O'Sullivan's "I'm a Writer not a Fighter".

But I soon found "Deja Vu" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water", so I hope I've repented for that minor indiscretion.

Abbey Road was the first Album I wanted to buy, but after several weeks of waiting for the local record store cum TV shop to get it in after I placed my order I gave up and got Johnny Cash Live at San Quentin instead. Then I decided I didn't like this so much and took it back. Can't rightly remember if I replaced it with Abbey Road but I suppose I must have as I still have an ancient copy of it in my collection. Much later I also bought JC Live at SQ on CD.
