Default Red-display

I found this supplier of perspex and acrylic products on ebay and are based in Driffield Yorkshire, they made a perspex cover for my Lenco as a special order and delivered within 24 hours of order and payment.

They were very cheap too only £34.55 including delivery anyone needing a cover or anything else made from plastic products should give them a try they gave the best service and friendly too.

Hi Bizzie,

That's good. Please describe your cover. Is it moulded or built out of straight sections glued together? Price looks nice. Please fill in the details. It could generate alot of interest.

Best wishes,

Greg

Question Re: Red-display

Greg,
perhaps they could cut a perspex unipivot arm, if a design was created - just a thought.

If it isn't fabricated from sheet, I'd love to know how they do it. When we were developing the Heybrook TT2, a new injection mould for a bespoke lid would have cost us £25,000 (about 5 times the total development cost in 1982!). So we bought lids in from Linn, and designed the plinth to fit. When Linn started ten years earlier they found the same thing, so bought lids in from Lenco (the one with the perspex prop on the right hand side). That's why all TTs from the seventies looked the same!
As a rambling aside, we also bought in felt mats from Linn. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen it said that putting a Linn mat on a TT2 improves it no end!

Its made from straight sections glued together and all edges have been polished, a neat job I'm very pleased with it for the price bearing in mind that you can order something similar from a regular ebay seller for only £200.00.

I think that they can make all sorts of shapes as they make things like the little display stands for shops and are selling some coffee tables made from perspex on ebay at the moment, they are also selling clear perspex computer cases cheaper than I've seen before, it was these that gave me the idea for the TT cover as the one I had didn't fit on very well with two arms and dust is a problem without one.

You could try but I'm not shure how much cheaper they could make them as £10 of what I paid was for courier delivery, I think that £24.55 is is an exceptional price for a bespoke cover especially since it was made and delivered within 24 hours of order and payment, more British businesses should get there act together and trade that way.

I received an email today From Andy which is interesting and may prove useful

Quote:

"Hi Alec,

We have received an order today to make another turntable case and i just wanted to say many thanks for your recommendations.

I have been reading the threads in the discussion group and I am fascinated at the attention to detail that still exists within the audiophile elite as regards sound reproduction from vinyl source!!!

Many small specialist turntable manufacturers have their covers fabricated from sheet material as the tooling costs are prohibitive due to the economy of scale. Having said this, those mass manufacturers who do invest in injection moulding usually have them moulded in styrene, which discolours and is very brittle. High end original equipment covers are usually acrylic and are fabricated, no injection mould tool can emulate the quality feel of cast acrylic in its surface finish and durability.

On other issues regarding turntables, it might be usefull to note that i also keep in stock thick perspex sheet used in the manufacture of plinths and platters. I have seen such material used in many designs, like Crane Audio and Roksan and if any of your forum members need any assistance in securing materials for homebuild im sure i can be of help to them.

Once again many thanks

Andy"

Looks like a source of thicker material too

Maybe someone should point out James speakers as well as another potential market for them.
