Default This new Linn Keel thing...

Hi All,

Just been reading about the new Linn Keel LP12
upgrade. Besides costing a ridiculous amount
of money it seems to debunk their previous
theories....

The chassis and armboard is one piece. I
was looking in my LP12 setup manual last night
(written by Linn)
and it mentions that fastening the armboard
onto the chassis using bolts or glue is a incorrect
as a certain amount of decoupling needs to be
present....

So whats going on with their new gizmo.
Or is it just another Russ Andrews type
"Last weeks mega product is this weeks trash"
Anybody seen this?

Matthew

the same wew new washing powder is so much better than the last, and what previously did a great job on your grass stained knees now wont even get the dust off.

Im sure most of it is just marketing hype to convince you to buy the lastest model.

Why the criticism? If the design principles of the Keel are different from previous sub-chassis, then so what? There's been a very long and tiresome thread on Pink Fish regarding the Keel and new Ekos, and all the sniping comes from those who will not under any circumstances ever listen to it. Those that have listened say it's a significant improvement over the old LP12. Whether it's enough in the crowded vinyl marketplace to justify the (sizeable) cost, in the face of the likes of Nottingham, SME, MIchell, Basis, and resurrected idlers and direct drives is altogether another matter. I reckon we should just be happy that Linn continue to employ a few people to make LP12s and these things, and indeed a whole lot more making other gear that people enjoy sniping about.

I think the killer comes into the fact that Linn have spent donkey's years claiming all sorts of benefits for one way, and rubbishing the other. Which they have now actually implemented, to a generally positive effect.

Ironic really.
