Physical Graffiti
Has anyone out there got a first edition vinyl pressing of Led Zeppelin's album Physical Graffiti ?
I've spent much of the last few weeks archiving CD's to HD in flac format (yes I've got one of the dreaded Squeezboxes), and have just got around to doing this album. At the end of track 3 "In My Time Of Dying", shortly after Bob Plant's vocal effectively ends, there is a pause, someone in the studio coughs, and Bob Plant picks up on it and sings the word cough. Then a small discussion starts. My vinyl copy does not contain the above runout to the track. I remember that it was on a pre-recorded cassette tape of the album. I just wonder if it ever got onto vinyl at all. Chris

Re: Physical Graffiti
My GF is a Zep fan, I'll have a listen on her copy (which no doubt will be in terrible condition like most of her vinyl, bless her!), dunno if its first edition but she's older than me so it must have been bought in the 70's

Re: Physical Graffiti
Cheers DTB - it's one of those niggly questions that I just want to get to the bottom of (read that as "I've got sod-all else to do, and I won't sleep now until I can get an answer").

Re: Physical Graffiti
Hi Chris,
I first had a copy of this album in the mid '70's. I have no idea which pressing it was as I would have been about 12 years old and such detail did not really interest me then. However it DID have the talky bit you refer to. I remember this because I subsequently sold the album (gasp!) and when I got round to getting another copy, I was really ****ed off to find that the talking was not on it. It bugged me for years until finally last year I splashed out a 'Quiex' pressing which has the talking bit back on it. Hope this helps. Last edited by spikeyfaz; 8th November 2007 at 06:12 PM. Re: Physical Graffiti
Thanks spikeyfaz - I'll be able to get some kip tonite.
Funny isn't it, the things that get left off recordings sometimes. I have heard that on the DVD-Audio disc of Billion Dollar Babies, by Alice Cooper, that the very last word on the last track is missing. And unfortunately that word has a HUGE impact - I imagine that the DVD-A release is an anti-climax as a result. Chris

Re: Physical Graffiti
Glad to help, Chris.
The same thing happened on an 'Amon Duul II' album. I forget which one but on my version a particular track fades out after a couple of minutes. Fair enough I thought until I heard my mate's copy which runs on for about another 5 minutes! Why???? |

Re: Physical Graffiti
Yup, I just listened to both our copies of PG, they've both got the "cough.....thats the one then...come an' have a lissun" dialogue at the end.
Both copies are pressed differently BTW. One has a wider run out than the other Now go to sleep Chris! DTB

Re: Physical Graffiti
Thanks for that too Dave.
I slept very soundly last nite - in fact too soundly, as I woke up at "Christ I've gotta be somewhere else half an hour ago" o'clock this morning. Chris
