Yes.

I'm particularly curious about the relay controlled source selector. I'm hoping that it might be made available as a retro-fittable module to other existing kits as the previous way of lots of wires is the one area that is a bit of a compromise, IMO.

Seconded!

From my own point of view, i'm glad to see that the new amp is a good visual match to the WAD equipment. Although I'd place sound quality above looks, I think Peter has made the right choice with the design. I was particually interested to read that input selection will now be by reed relays mounted on a PCB. Makes me think would this be a better option for our PREII's? Maybe the relay PCB could be available as a separate kit, for fitting to other WAD amps? All food for thought I guess. Also seems to be lacking a tape loop, which for me is not a problem, and whats that little blimp on the front panel towards the left? Is it an LED or just a screw head? I'm sure all will be revealed in good time! Personally I'm very tempted by this amp but plan to save my pennies for the 300B design that may be planned! My modded KAT6550 is sounding pretty good (to my ears anyaway) at the moment anyway.

Interesting to see that of late there have been several new members to this BB, I'm an avid reader, but don't often feel the need to post, the ponit is, it appears word and support for WD is spreading, so I'd like to say well done Peter and keep up the good work!

Mike.

(ps i'd not seen KennyK's post before posting mine!)

Just a very very little point reading the article, IN5408's are not schottkys, they are standard recovery types.

Maybe schottkys will be suggested as part of an upgrade migration. As a matter of interest, which ones would you suggest?

Sorry, that should have read UF5408.

I have moved the thread to where it should be, regarding discussion of any World Designs kits.

There are cosmetic differences to the WAD equipment to make the amplifier more attractive (the photo is a prototype and we haven't photographed the production version yet) but the concept is similar.

The relay input board will be available as a spare and it only requires a six way switch on the front panel. There is an update to the Pre2 coming (PRE3) which will also use a similar input switching method. We hope to make this backwards compatible but I cannot say at this stage.

The blip on the front panel is a power LED which, hopefully, will show the status of HT and LT - all will be revealed next month.

We didn't include a tape switch as this adds extra complication which seems unnecessary these days. I assume that anyone off-tape monitoring (as I do) will do it through headphones and not through the main amp. If there is a tide of opinion otherwise then we can add a conversion kit later.

Does this raise the possibilty of remote control input switching? (I haven't read the article yet, so forgive me if this is already covered).

Hah, you're right, of course, how could I doubt it? They are very fast switching though!

I should have checked. Amendment will follow next month with suitable recommended devices.
