Hi Colin,

I am pretty sure my mate had one and it sounded quite good and the build quality the same. I think the emphasis was on the transport mechanism being top notch.

No worries Colin. Got another link for you, although documents 703 mods but lists among others the 801 model.
http://lampizator.eu/LAMPIZATOR/REFE...ioneer703.html

Another link which I can't find now, did mention fitting Burson op-amps to a 801.

Yep that link was the one I was looking for thanks
I see from the service manual the op-amps are the NJM 5532DD which I class as bog standard
I would like to have a look inside but that would void the warranty as there is a sticker over the back panel and top cover so better leave it for a while

The Plan is to recap with good capacitors maybe re-clock it and change the op-amps or add the lampizator using SRPP tube system and 6H6P tubes so a nice project

They make a good transport Colin. Maybe try it with one of these-

Heard one at Owston and it's great for the money. The dac chip is the same family as that used in the Logitech Transporter.

I've got one of those now, and I quite like it. It seems "better" than the last e-bay one I built.

I'm also liking the TDA1541 DAC in a Marantz CD75 that I've stripped down to the bare essentials and using as a top loader.

Next step is a 6n2p valve output stage same as Richard uses.

You can buy optical/coax converters quite cheap, I got one for my new TV as the digital out is only optical.
