Kel84 - Speaker Binding Post Wiring

Having decided to hardwire my Kel84, the PCB had seen better days thanks to my tweaks/modifictaions, I happily stripped all the bits out and desoldered the transformer connections with gleeful abandon. However now I've come to wire it all back up and hit a snag. I've forgotten which way round the output transformer wires go to the speaker binding posts. Of course this would be simply solved by looking at my manual, however in my recent house move I put my Kel84 manual in a 'very safe' place, so safe I can't locate it again! So if some kind forum member could inform me which way the green and purple wires should be attached to my binding posts I'd be extremely grateful.

BTW how have you delt with the PSU, are you using the same chassis?,

Hi David,

I'm using the original WAD chassis, with additional holes drilled to support the mounting of the valve bases. I've built the PSU onto a variant of tagboard and then mounted that to the chassis. I can take some photos and post them if your interested to see how I've done things.

I'll second that, some pictures of a hard wired KEL84 would be interesting. I've recently rebuilt mine, and the PCB is rather limiting, in so much as it's not really up to constant removal / resoldering, and doesn't lend itself to upgraded components, with larger diameter leads. Drilling the holes out to a certain point is ok as long a enough of the track is left!

Hard wiring maybe a winter project for me.

Hi Guys,

As requested here are some pictures of my 'hardwired' Kel84, hopefully they answer questions as to how I did things and offer inspiration to those folks who might want to give it a go. The first image shows the overall layout of the components within the chassis, not really that crowded . However my Kel84 has been substantially tweaked from the stock configuration. The second image shows the rebuilt PSU on it's tagboard/support. The PSU features a larger sized 3rd cap of 330uF, Richard's heater mod and turbo-switch diodes for the bridge rectifier.
