I would say it has to entirly depend on the amp it was used in.

Hmmm,
Valve rectification looks good and guarantees a slow start, but Solid State can be more reliable than modern valve rectifiers (as discussed in the old place with respects to the hybrid 300B PP PSU).
Undecided, I'll accept the designer's decision.

I suppose in a traditional single ended, its gotta be valve, but a high powered class AB paralell push pull I would say SS.

What about switchable valve and SS? very american guitar amp, read mesa boogie?
