Blocking on valve amps
Hi alll
Has any one come across this problem on amps, were-by the amp mutes on overload for a moment due to the fact that the coupling caps dont have time to charge quickley enough through the grid leak resistor so it begs the question is there any way to overcome this, it is also generaly believe that NFB dosn,t help the problem. Re: Blocking on valve amps
Well I've thrashed all my amps - guitar and hifi - pretty hard and have never had that happen. I can only think it will be an issue in guitar amps where overdrive is a creative tool. Even then it's usually the pre that is overdriven and the output stage stays within bounds and reproduces that sound rather than creating its own. If it happens with a hifi amp you can be sure you need a bigger amp

Re: Blocking on valve amps
I've had it happen on guitar amps whilst developing a new design - particularly when taking a PA amp or hifi amp and modding it for guitar duty - but your right that it is only significant when using lots of gain and overdriving the amp hard. I have had it on power stages but on 5W or less output
