Default World Design Kits Evaluation

We've been asked a few times whether it is possible to 'borrow' kit amplifiers for interested parties to try out in their own homes.

We've come up with a procedure for this as follows:

1. An order is placed on our website for a kit 'on evaluation'.
2. We send out an evaluation amplifier for you to listen to over five days.
3. If you like it the evaluation amp is collected from you and we deliver the kit.
4. If you don't like it we collect the evaluation amp and refund your money less the delivery cost.

Bear in mind we are likely only to have one demo amplifier of each type for evaluation, so there may be up to a few weeks wait for one to become available.

Please vote on whether you think this is a good idea and whether it will work as well as whether you would be interested.

Any comments would also be appreciated.

so you basically buy a built amp for the kit price, and if you like it you swap it for a kit, and if you dont you get your money back minus delivery?

Sounds reasonable to me, how much would delivery costs be, roughly?

Hi Peter-seems to me a very fair offer.

Have you set a time limit for the "evaluation" ?

I may be interested in the Pre/Phono 3 when you have "perfected" the design but i would be more interested in a "review" by perhaps one of our more senior forum members or possibly a pre/phono "shoot out" ?

That sounds like a good idea Peter. (No, you can't borrow my WD88VA! )

Will you be extending the evaluation scheme to WD Speakers too?

Seeing as everyones homes most be different acoustically wouldn't it be a good idea to offer WD25A/T's on loan too to see how they work in an 'at home' setting. I'd be willing to collect/return a pair of 'T's to you myself to save on packaging and courier cost's, I bet I'm not alone here.

For a WD88VA, for example, delivery and collection would be £32.50.

Excellent idea - I would certainly go for that!

You should charge a modest admin fee as well Peter, refundable if kit is purchased.

Hi Peter
Seems like a fair way to proceed / this may well increase sale as most people arrange a demo to evaluate before buying even better when you can do this in you own home

We could extend it to speakers but the delivery and collection costs might put you off. For example for WD25T it would be £52.

£52, bum. I see what you mean, I could drive to you and back in my car for less than half that.

Thanks for the info though.

Hi DTB-you would have to go there and back TWICE if you wanted a home demo.

Dartford to Gt Gidding = 92 miles

x 4 =368 miles @ 30mpg and £5 a gallon == £61.33 (+ 4 dartford crossing charges)

So Peters carriage charge is very reasonable.
