For weeks now there has been very little activity from any one, new members come and say almost nothing, regulars appear to be doing nothing, surely, there must be a hot soldering iron out there. I hope to be writing a peace on my journey with a now stunning Phono III, and I am now giving my Akidio Pre the same treatment, come on all you solder slingers. Bob

I had come to the conclusion that everybody must be on holiday. For me it's a busy time at the allotment.

Look forward to the phono 3 piece Bob. One of those is on my to-do list. Is it a 3 or a 3S?

I came across the attached on Twitter the other day. I would like to know more about the lathe stage.

Can anybody suggest some speakers that would be a good match for my MF X-A200s? I use them with some PMC Twenty 23s at the moment, which aren't bad, but I feel the MFs deserve and could do better. The PMCs can be a bit bright and forward at times and can become fatiguing after prolonged listening. Wouldn't want to spend too much but you never know what eBay can throw up. Room is about 7m x 4m.

Tim, you need to listen to speakers yourself, preferably in you room with your amplifiers, there is a massive amount of speakers out there to chose from, saying all that, I once used two MF X-A100 amps with Acoustic energy AE1 Mk II speakers and I wish I still had them, they were almost perfect, but it also could be your source or Pre that is giving you the bright sound. Thunderstorms here today, so I plugged in my small project amp (Single-ended ECL82).
It has a capacitor input EZ81 power supply, but the B+ is higher than I need, so I have fitted a high wattage 1k2 resistor to bring this down. The aluminum body of the resistor is bolted to the inside top of my small steel chassis, but this is dissipating some heat (about 70mA dc load). The Hammond power transformer (bolted on top of the chassis) is also heating up the corner of my listening station.
I decided to see how a Choke input power supply would work in this installation, to reduce the load from the power supply (and to save me having to use a high wattage volt dropper resistor).
First impressions were that the B+ has reduced considerably, as expected, and the transformer seems to be running much cooler. One downside is that the ripple on the HT line is much higher than with the previous C-L-C-R-C configuration. I think I will have to add another Low Pass filter stage to bring the 100 Hz ripple down to inaudible levels.
