Hi Richard and all, the circuit has DC blocking capacitors after the volume control and after the output section, I did test for DC at the volume control but not a hint, and yes, I reversed, and tried different tubes, but nothing made any effect, as I said in former posts, it would work fine and sounded very good for weeks, then for some unknown reason, the gremlins got in , any how, I look forward to the Akidio. Hi bob,
I hope it all works out right.
The ACF board, if thats what you have bought, is a doodle to wire up although i had to get a bit creative with the heater wiring as its really designed around 12.6V series heaters but a bit of fly wiring and adaptation sorted it. I also used PCB pins for the critical resistors if you change the valve types so I can swop em out easily. The rest is easy and the instruction booklet has lots of good tips in it plus if you opt for the resistor kit you get all the close tolerance values you need for the popular valves. I just used ECC82. I think the design takes out the variations in valve characteristics and seems to present a neautral sound without coloration, but adds that bit of "thrutch" to the overall sound.
It also fits inside a WD case ok.

Andy

Hi Andy, yes I have ordered the PCB + all components less tubes, I intend to use Mullard E88CC gold pin @ 200v from a WD PSU. Do you still use the one you built ?, I know that you lent it to a chum some time back. How is Mrs Nutt ?, and how is the home improvement coming on ?. I will post as the ACF takes shape. BOB

hows progress Bob?
I have the WD stuff back now and its in the system again for now.
I have all the bits to make the pre3 transformer based pre so need to **** myself and build it in the adapted Headphone amp case. It'll have the PSU inside as a one box job. And possibly using either 6CG7 or 6SN7 valves.

Andy.

Good news, the Akidio arrived just after dinner today, all up and working, very good so far, I have left it running with a Mini Disc deck on repeat until tomorrow, I will try and put some pictures on tomorrow. BOB

Pictures would be very good, Bob. Looking forward to them. I want to compare what you've done to what I have done! I haven't played with mine for a while, and have some questions/considerations to discuss, so might need to refresh my memory of my own build first.

Hi Colin, the remote board and handset came from HiFi Collective, he still does it, the motorised Alps pot came from RS Components, much cheaper than Nick Lucas at HiFi C. I have not put the Pre back in the system yet, left it powered up all night and all today, I will get it back in tomorrow. BOB
