Default Members' Gallery

After much mucking about with templates and so forth I've managed to institute a picture gallery. You can read about how to post your pictures in the instructions under BB Rules.

Because this method uses the Attachment to Message method there are some oddities about what you can and can't do, for example you can't post a message with the picture but you can post a message to the thread. So, when posting a picture all forum users will see is the Thread Title. Keep this short and sweet or it will be truncated in the Gallery view.

NOTE: If you want to add a comment to the picture, post the picture and then add a Reply to the thread you have created with all the picture details in it.

There is a limit to the disk space that this forum can occupy so the Gallery will be the first to be pruned if that limit is reached. It will be pruned on a first in, first out basis.

Any attachments to normal message posts will also add to this disk space overhead. So I would rather you all continued to keep images in your Main Forum message posts on your own, or free picture, websites and use the tags either side of the picture's web address to display it in posts instead of using the attachment method.

I hope you all find the Gallery useful.

Red face Member's Gallery. What is it good for?

All sounds a bit confusing Peter, especially if the 'Manage Attachments' button is going to start working but is just (or should only be used) for these new types of message-less messages.

We now seem to have two methods to show pictures, dissimilar to each other, and that each method should only be used where and when as described(?!).

The point of the Gallery is to show off your designs in an easy to access picture library which shows thumbnails of pictures rather than the standard BB thread layout.

So if you want to illustrate your posts continue to use the IMG method. If you want to display your loved and cherished amplifiers for all to gloat over then use the Gallery.

I guess you'll see better how it works if you post a picture.

Hi Peter

If anyone wants to use my website to post pics to I can take the strain off the BB by hosting them. http://web.mac.com/scress1958/iWeb
Simply send images and stories to my email address which can be found in my profile and I'll put the page together as a personal page for that member.
Hopefully we can build this into a great resource for projects, schematics and events timetables etc. What it can be used for depends only on the imagination of the members.

I have 1GB of storage space which should allow plenty of pictures for now and am thinking of upgraging to possibly 10GB in the near future So even videos of eggfests etc could be hosted.

We can use the Members Gallery as a means to communicate what is on the website.

Worth thinking about

Steve.

Hi Peter,

I'm probably being a bit thick, but where is the Gallery located?

Best wishes,

Greg

Peter
I have sent some time trying to upload pictures from the last WadFest South to the gallery.
after lowering their size to 90k and converting to jpegs, I attempted to upload . I was informed I had exceeded my limit by 86 odd k.
what could I be doing wrong.

Rob

As described in the FAQ, it's available from the menu bar near the top of the screen, next to User CP.
