I would certainly go along with that! Very competent company, superbly finished results. Very easy ordering system and CAD package. Top marks.

Re: Schaeffer A.G. front panel designer
I am less than impressed with them. They produced an amp front with not only the required lettering engraved and coloured but all the cut out dimensions engraved as well eg power 22x12mm treble 10mm. They didn't see this as a problem and refused to do anything about it leaving me with an expensive (72 Euro) piece of scrap.
How they could have imagined anyone would want an appliance front like that is beyond me! |

Yes I see what you mean but, otoh, it is a unique design!
no, no, the more I think about it, I'd be ****ed off with them. |

Re: Schaeffer A.G. front panel designer
What did your CAD drawing look like? Did you add these 'notes' on yourself? I can imagine they will reproduce exactly what is on the drawing no more, no less and probably without too much thought, its a very automated process, after all.
Now, if they engraved stuff that you never drew on there, or was added automatically by the CAD package but its not yours, then they have a bug in their code and I think you have a case! And you have my sympathies. But I can't tell from what your post, which was it? -- Andrew |

Re: Schaeffer A.G. front panel designer
Hi-sorry,but my first reaction was to laugh !
I thought it was very funny. If it were me i would probably be giving myself a good talking to and (whilst still laughing) marvelling on how such a thing could happen. Schaeffer seem to have an unrivalled reputation in this very specialised field and give people exactly what they ask for. Have you seen the funny side yet ? Philip ps got a picture ?

Re: Schaeffer A.G. front panel designer
My order arrived within 10 days (a replacement panel for my KIT6550 as it had been converted to a KAT6550). Looks good, really impressed with the service (even more impressed I got the measurements right).

Re: Schaeffer A.G. front panel designer
Just reviving this thread with a query.
I've had FPD 3.4 for a while now. Today I found out about the add-on script called "Scale Generator", with which you are supposed to be able to...well...generate scales. You know: the circle of numbers a round a control knob. It's available as a download fom their American arm, Front Panel Express. Here's the DOWNLOAD LINK Basic instructions on how to use the Scale Generator tool interface are shown in THIS PDF FILE So, all excited, I downloaded the thing. It comes in a .jar file, so I unpacked the contents ( a whole bunch of .class files and suchlike) into a folder ...and now I'm stuck! I have absolutely no idea how to incorporate them into FPD, and there are no instructions available anywhere on how to achieve this. Has anyone else here tried this script and used it successfully? If so, I'd love to know what you're supposed to do. |

Re: Schaeffer A.G. front panel designer
OK - I've sussed it out.
In case anyone else wants to try Scale Generator and faces the same hurdles as I did, this is what was causing the confusion... The people who wrote the Scale Generator device packaged it as a Java Runtime Executable file with the file extension .jar "But hang on..." I hear you cry (well go on, cry it - I'm waiting....), "Isn't .jar the file extension for a compressed archive?" Well yes, it is - a Java archive. As such, many unzipping programs will by default be set to open it for you. Mine certainly was: double-clicking the file didn't make it execute under Java, it just made the unzipping program show me its innards. In order to make the thing work, you have to make sure you've got the latest version of Java runtime environment (version 6.11 at the time of writing this) on your machine and dis-associate your unzipping software from the .jar file extension. Having used Scale Generator to create a scale, you save it as an HPGL object by giving it the file extension .plt You can then import this object into your Front Panel Designer project. |
