Default WAD Pre-2 specs

Does anybody have the specs for the old Pre-2? I.e. output sensitivity.

Many thanks. I'm assessing it's suitability to match a pair of Quad 2's. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Hi Dave-i have had a pair of Quad 11s for ages and have successfully used them with quite a few pre-amps (valve and SS,but not pre 2) with good results.

My Quads were rebuilt with new resistors and caps some years ago and did me well for many years BUT ,compared to what i use now (832 PP, ECL82 SE , 300b SE ,845 SE) they are a bit lacking.

Well,as i have not used the Quads for a while it was time to refresh my memory.

They do sound quite nice,a bit lacking in the lower regions and a bit insensitive, needing a bit more from the Pre3 (with shunted pot) i am using at the moment.

Into the VoFos (Fostex 206) they sound a little "polite" but i could live with them if that's all i had.

QUAD II sensitivity is 1.4V for full output, so with Pre-2, it would need sources with 280 mV output or greater. CD shouldn't be a problem, but with other sources, outputs can be lower than this.

Dave, I'd have thought it worth a try if the sound quality is anything like the latest Pre3. I've had 3 pairs of Quads over the last 30 years and always found the sensitivity a problem. Recently, buying Pre3 has been a real ear opener, even with a line sensitive power amp the improvement in sound using this pre is dramatic, it clearly drives an input far better than the output of many sources or other preamps. If this is at least in part due to the use of output transformers then it may be a common benefit with the older model. The Quads all got sold, a love/hate relationship I'm afraid.
