Default Fostex fe206

Hi all

I have some fostex de206 in the fostex back loaded horn and a much more exotic horn later. I would like to modify the driver by cutting the dustcap off then fitting a phase plug - does anyone know where I can get detailed pics on how to do this?

Chris.

I'm not sure if anyone has published a pictorial on this, but it's a simple enough operation.

You will ideally need a proper scalpel with a sharp pointed blade(Number 11 blades are good). Craft knives are a bit clumsy for this job.
You need to remove the central portion of the cap first so that you can see what you are doing. Then gradually work your way towards the outside. You will hopefully see when it's time to stop.

Phase plugs can be obtained here.

Or you can get a local woodturner to make you some, as i did. But you need to know the size to do this.

Just be careful, those scalpels are bloody sharp.

I Found laying the speaker down on its back better if the drivers are still in the cabinets. And a steady hand !

Don't forget to cover the speaker with a green drape, with just the driver exposed whilst carrying out the operation, and scrub up well first!

Of course others cut them whilst fitted using a scalpel and fitted the phase plugs in less than 10 minutes - no green cloth, no scrub nurse (shame...), no anaesthetic (until afterwards ).

Phase plugs are an excellent idea though - and you can really worry people by replacing them with bayonet cap light bulbs if you want a brighter sound.

Go cut, my friend.
