playing Live with Vince Clarke singing Tora Tora Tora
been devoted ever since.

hearing Little Richard's Long tall Sally on a wind up gramaphone was the start of it all,
but to me the life changing moment was seeing a Fender Stratocaster for the first time, I just could'nt believe how beautiful it was

Beethoven symphony no 6, Toscanini on five 78s, don't know when but I was about four, so 1956ish.

Buddy Guy & Junior Wells - Newcastle City Hall 10th May 1987. Buddy's guitar & vocals were phenomenal and really pushed me into a far greater interest in Blues and non mainstream music in general. Junior Wells was excellent as well.

The Boomtown Rats - Exhibition Park Newcastle summer 1982. Very important to me at the time as they were then my favourite band. Great performance and I got to share the stage with Geldof and co. I was deaf for a week after.

I am fortunate to have recordings of both these concerts, thanks to Metro and BBC Radio 1 respectively.

Most of the early Steely Dan records woke me up to how good a really good musician could be.....after that,hearing Pat Metheny and Keith Jarrett for the first times got me onto jazz,and recently,hearing Steve Lukather and Larry Carlton(both of whom I've always liked) was superb,so much so that my son(who hates anything to do with jazz) and I both saw Luke and a small band in a tiny club in London last year.....utterly amazing to hear what a guy who played on every major record out of LA from the 70's to the 90s does for a bit of fun,and obviously loves playing music to a live audience.

1965 stands out as a good year for Blues, trips to Manchester Free Trade Hall??. Leadmill Sheffield to see Memphis Slim and ended up going for a Chinese with him after the show.
Art College Dances with Joe Cocker '66 and '67 London Art College dance with a black band trumpets and sax's lifted the roof, in another hall same dance were The Cream plying to about 25 sitting on thfloor.

the two tracks which got me going are Joy Division's 24Hours and Kraftwerk's Autobahn.
First heard JD on the Peel show while living in Germany - it scared the c*** out of me ( I was 14 ). Couldnt find any of their records and had to wait 2 yrs when I returned to Blighty,after Ian had died.
Heard Kraftwerk at about the same time while tuning my radio - I first thought it was some odd coded radio message so kept listening. It sounded very odd on the old transistor radio I had then ( I had started taking things apart so it may not have been working properly ) but 'loved' it.Spent weeks trying to find out who it was,my German wasnt upto dj speed. Thought they where called the workshop. Close
