Default Email notifications

Some members have been having a few problems with not receiving email notifications of PMs. I've raised this with Global Gold (who host the forum) and on their recommendation have changed a couple of settings. They have been "hardening" the server security because of malicious spam users.

These changes may or may not - glass half full? - sort the problem, but I'd be grateful to hear of any issues around this subject for the next few weeks. Please post on this thread or email me directly, giving as much detail as possible, so I can take it up with Global Gold.

Thanks, Matthew

I turn mine off as I check the forum daily but have sent an email via the forum facility recently and it was never received.

Email notification of subscribed threads is still to say the least very random too zero so hasn’t improved with the tweaked settings

Yes, I haven't ever experienced problems with PMs with this forum either. As Philip has said, I think the issue is probably down to settings in the user control panel.
However, I remember having trouble signing up to the forum (because of 'technical details'-which were never explained to me) and it took Dave Cawley a few attempts at configuring things from his side of the fence. I believe that he was able to 'see' things (certainly, to some extent), as he was able to rectify the problem and notify me when the issue was resolved (hence me joining the forum).

Justin.

Hi Matthew, all,

Yes, like Colin, my email notifications of PMs has become erratic too. It was ok, then none a few weeks ago. I adjusted settings in Admin and it returned for a while, now it seems to be off again. So that fits with what Global may be doing. I'll see if there's anything else can be adjusted our end - User or Admin - but I don't think so.

PM's thgemselves seem to be working fine, so it may be a case of using PM's rather than email from the forum, and not relying on getting email notification.

I'm guessing the spam reduction they talk off will be aimed at tightening email security, so posting PM's once logged on will work fine but the external email facilities of messages and notifications may not.

I don't know if this is helpful but I use MS Outlook for my email. I find if I access an email address from the WD forum, any sent message sits in my outbox but is not sent until I enter my Outlook outbox and send on from there.

Just a thought, does your internet provider test your e-mails for spam ?

I'm with Virgin and I have a spam box on my bit of the Virgin website. I check it every couple of days and out of (on average) 40 spams per day i get perhaps one genuine one per week in there.
