Default How many pairs of speakers do you own?

10 at the last count I just can't help collecting them!

the list goes like this, in no preference.

Quad ESL57 very early both s/n's are in the region of 300.

Tannoy 611 new soniqs sax caps

Tannoy Cheviots

DBX soundfield 100 in need of recone of the 10" driver

Celestion Ditton 15xr Highly modded out board xover and used active

Harbeth LS3/5a

Spendor SP2

Celestion 551

Homebrew Transmission line using a Tannoy 6" ICT driver this pair was a prototype design for my main listening speakers.

My main speakers are fully active a TL using a Tannoy 6" Pro Dual with a Tannoy st25 super tweeter.

I love the sound of these over all the speakers I have heard there is just no boxyness no boom boom just nice controled punchy bass with serious sub freq thrown in that puts a smile on myface.
and mid/high vocals that my mates die for.
all driven by a Kat88 Bass Kel84 treb

Too many.

Acoustic Energy Aegis One
BIB with Fostex FF165K
BIB with Monacor SPH-60X (on loan to a friend)
ML TQWT with Fostex FE167E (3 pairs actually, the first two were 'borrowed' by friends who refuse to give them back)
Shortly a double horn with FE126E (currently building)
Open baffle with Visation B200 (currently building)

only the two
a pair of newly 'restored' jr149
and a pair of wd25a's

jr's are used with a quad 44/405-2 combo and the wd's are driven by my kel84.
Although, whats these hiding behind the computer screen..... WOW its a pair of eltax millenium mini's, how could i have forgotten about such a classic design as these (I just noticed, there rated at 120w, i might have to try the full 100w output from my quad later, any bets how long they will last?)

Which are your favourites?
Or if thats too hard a question, which do you listen to most?

That depends on whether you're talking about manufacturers or designers!

Graeme,

It is a very difficult question!

I'm not sure I would give the same answer twice. Over the years, in my main system, I used the HB3's - for about 12 years (their now in the loft) - I loved them but as CD's encroached I felt the treble was a bit ragged. I then switched to the Sextets and have been using them for the last 11 years .... until the WD25A came around that is.

If I was a magician and allowed I would love new HB3's with a modern treble driver and an enormous house to fit them into!

It sounds like the wd's are being used the most at pressent then.

I just wondered.

Cant you get the drivers rebuilt in the hb3's and fit a new tweeter? (with a bit of crossover tweeking maybe, im guessing here)

Ive no suggestions on the enourmous house though, well, not practical ones anyway.

I recently fitted a pair of new mid-range units to my old pair of HB3s, since the originals had perished surrounds. The current equivalent SEAS unit was slightly different from the originals, and made them a little "shouty" and forward, but they were fairly close to the original sound, and would probably respond to a bit of crossover tweaking.
I had to respond to domestic pressure and sold them to my daughter's boy-friend, replacing them with a pair of Mission 782s, which are a lot smoother and a bit bouncier, but don't have the shere grunt of the HB3s.
I'd be interested to hear about it if you decided to have a go at updating them.
There's a possibility that I might have actually built your HB3s when they were new!

er not many I think 3 pairs.....

Used in main system at present Gale 3020's, okay for 50 quid....

Original Wharfedale Diamond II's somewhere about....

And some god awful Eltax Argos super specials....in there box ready for ebay...

It's a pretty poor show really as i've had some really great speakers ( and systems for that matter ! ) in the past, wife, houses, babies, turning 30....what a life !
