K5881 MK1 complete rebuild and conversion to MK2
For a number of years I've intended on rebuilding my K5881 Mk1 amp I originally constructed in 1994. I've finally got round to starting the job. The chassis is now completely stripped cleaned and ready for the reconstruction and i'm busy ordering components.
I'm going to convert it to the MK2 version and would be grateful to hear any tips or advice any of you may have. I've read the thread in which Richard describes installing an earth lift resistor to eliminate hum loops: http://www.world-designs.co.uk/forum...?t=6918&page=3 Any input on the following would also be much appreciated: 1) Reducing the MK2 sensitivity of 75mV to something more sensible that will be better matched to my WAD Pre II active pre-amp. Has anyone tried dealing with this other than by adding a potential divider on the input? 2) Power supply upgrades. The original smoothing capacitor is no onger available. 3) Advice on audio grade signal path component upgrades (caps and resistors). It's been standard since build. Having had no previous experience, the audio grade market seems to range from sensible to 'snake oil'! Regards, Zak |
