Kel84, what valves

Im really enjoying my kel84 and have been thinking about slowly gathering some different valves.
I was thinking of getting a few different makes and then eventually trying them all just to see what kind of difference they make.
It means ill have some spares too

Im not planning on swapping them any time soon as i want to get used to the amp as it is, but if anyone can recomend any makes i can keep an eye open for them and buy them as they turn up, spreading the cost.

Im new to valves so i dont know how big, or small, the difference between makes is.
As im new, can you specify el84 or ecf80 with any makes you recomend.
Ill obviously try mullards, in both ecf80 and el84, but what others? or are they all worth a try.
Ones to avoid would be good too.

About the manufacturer: The Reflector Corp, Saratov (near St. Petersburg)- makes most of the tubes marketed by New Sensor Co. of New York under the "Sovtek" brand name. Some of these are old Russian types, others are made especially for export. There is no "Sovtek" factory. "Sovtek" is only an American brand name owned by New Sensor. The same factory also makes tubes sold under the Svetlana and the Electro Harmonix brand names.


Does that mean reflektor, sovtek, svetlana and electro harmonix are all the same?

Svetlana 'Winged C' are only produced by Svetlana in St. Petersburg.

The others may be produced by Reflector, or other Russian factories, and may be similar. Generally different tube types are produced by different Russian factories but a Sovtek and EH valve are usually out of the same factory.

We can supply whatever flavour you like, including NOS like Mullard, just give us a list for quotation.

Im guessing they aint cheap?

Im in no way unimpressed with the supplied valves, its just that this whole thing is a learning experience for me and part of that learning needs to be the effect of different valves.

Hi greame here a few suggestions, on e-bay at the moment, and don't be afraid to buy from the states and europe. Especially the states with the exchange rate being good.

These should be nice valve e80cf's are a good improvment over the ecf80's

Also look at these, don't know much about them but they look good value at £5 each.
