In my local town center on Saturday was a largish brass band playing coupled with a proper drum kit.

The type of music played wasn't my cup of tea but I thoroughly enjoyed it all the same. That is until I was dragged off to B&Q yet again....!!

Some just don't understand me I mean, it was so real....you just had to be there........:p

Hi-i had a similar experience in a Cornish fishing village a couple of years ago when a local choir were singing on the quayside one evening.

I am with you on that one Darren, I was on a beach in Portugal last month, Sesimbra, there were a group of about 12 playing Brazilian music, they all had a number of different drums, one being a large kettle drum, they were just going through their routines, well the bass, hi-fi can only dream about stuff like that, awsome feeling.

I don't think i'm much closer to reproducing such music than i was thirty five years ago.

The best (most realistic) live recording i ever had, was one i did for myself in a pub.

Something must be getting lost in the professional studios. Seems to me that our gear generally is capable of far more than the engineers allow.

We go on holiday to Cornwall most years and the last couple of times we've found these 2 bays that have live acoustic music on the same night.

In one bay there's one bloke on his own with a lump of pipe that he blows down, the sound is really good.

In the other bay there's a team playing tug-of-war whilst playing instruments.

The sound is different in both bays.

...which goes to prove that SE and PP are different.

Same experience here,

The kick drum was awesome, even in open air able to radiate 360 degrees.
No speaker could hold a candle to that I wouldn't think.

Live music is always impressive. The cymbals and various brass instruments were equally mesmerising, brilliant...!!!

Last week I was in the Bourbon Street Blues Club in Amsterdam, the percussion in particular was astounding. We talk about dynamics but similar to your last comment Darren, no speaker could deliver anything like it.

When I called my wife to say where I'd been she's sure I said a boobs club. Oh well, it was Amsterdam.

We often get a pipe band in the local park the sound presser levels from that are incredibly when I was a DJ doing open-air gigs the sound was incredible with a 3kPA of bass horns /mids top end horns set up your speakers in the back garden and enjoy no room problems it works
