Is this a con?
I've been buying a particular make and type of valve, that seems to be rocketing in price and I've now been approached by emails on 3 occasions, by seemingly different named people, the latest today ( I got outbid on the latest batch).
This last one came via Ebay and the person says that everything will be done by ebay rules. The latest one says that he is going on a business trip for 3 weeks. He wants my address and my best price AND he will pay the shipping costs. Is he so poor that he cannot absorb the costs of an aborted auction. It smells, no it stinks or am I just being cynical. What I want to know is how did these 3 ostensibly different people get my email address - comments please. |

Re: Is this a con?
It may be worth forwarding the mails to spoof'at'ebay.co.uk (or your local equivalent) and seeing what sort of response you get.

Quote:
Hi Stuart, They see your eBay name in the bidders list and email you via "contact member". Sometimes this asks them to confirm a graphic on the screen but usually it lets them send an email even if they are not dealing with you. Rich |

Re: Is this a con?
Hi-it only applies on "lower" value items as on anything over £100 (i think !) they change to a "bidder number" rather than your individual e-bay name.

Re: Is this a con?
Hi Mike,
I live in Spain and phone conversations with the Spanish are trying to say the least, they have very lazy ears (99%) and if you don't speak perfect Spanish they cannot/will not try to understand. Also they cannot control the rate of knots at which they speak - even if their lived depended on it, I've never encountered this with any other people anywhere. It just seems strange that as these 3 supposedly different people are all watching what these particular valves are going for - then why offer to sell them cheaply - no it stinks to me. |
