Default criminal

just been to maplins, I was asking about octal valve sockets, they said head office had decreed not to stock them anymore along with the valves and guess what????

they have destroyed the old stock, not sold them off cheap, smashed valves and valve sockets up with a hammer...they said it was common for discontinued stock

I am truly appalled, I wonder if this wanton waste is widespread in retail?

I'm afraid it is.
Theres probably enough good food in the skips to feed the worlds starving population. All because it's a day out of date.

As for Maplins, well they only want to stock goods that sell on a regular basis to Joe public. Thats business. If they have smashed up good stock then that is utterly rediculous.

Thumbs down Re: criminal

You mean to say they did'nt stump up for the price of an ad in a trade journal, to clear the stock they did'nt want anymore and then paid out wages for staff to destroy - at least!

How are they still in business.Come to that - did the staff doing the destruction bit, not have any brains. What a bunch of Wallys.

I once worked on a renovation of a council estate, built circa 1930s'. I came in at the death. The mindless morons doing the work had ripped out corner cupboards (the occupiers were given the choice of keeping them or not) - Art Deco and skipped them all 150 of them. When I told these retards they had thrown away over £200 each (this was 1981) they looked even more prattish than they normally did.

I hope this doesn't mean that their website will stop selling valve related parts, like their 7-10 H 100mA choke.

What wind Ian up? Who would do a thing like that?

I have some spare Craplin 7h chokes (they don't go to 10 that is a lie.)

Nope there's some truth in this.

I was down my local branch a couple of weeks ago and asked about some bits. I got told to buy 'em up while they had them as they were going to be discontinued. Apparently, they're moving into DVD players and consumables like CDRs and away from components - a very silly strategy if you ask me. How they gonna compete against Tesco on a 40 quid DVD player?

End of another era I expect, mutter, mutter.....

cheers,

-- Andrew

I need a new telly, went to Tesco, didn't like to pay £150 for a flat one with a worse picture that only looked good if you were stood right in front of it, so bought a normal looking one for £49 which you can watch from any angle.

Shock horror, did buy a set top box, but wish hadn't. Worst load of programming rubbish I've seen in my entire life, how did standards slip this far?

No wander back in 79 when I was in the USA they craved watching the BBC so much. Now I suppose the writing is on the wall, terrestrial programs will die, poor quuality television here we come.

Very true.
The only reason for buying a set top box, that I can see, is to get a better picture in areas where signals are weak. Works for me.
