Default World Design Future Plans

How about a discussion on this. I have no knowledge at all but would be interested to know current thinking. What can users usefully contribute to future WD development. Incidentally why is it World Designs rather than the old WAD. Aspirational?

I think Dave has well set out his thinking for the future in other areas of the forum.

It's been World Designs since January 2006, when the WAD business folded and Peter Comeau took it over. Peter sold out to Dave Cawley a few months ago and he will let us know as and when anything new is happening.

I must be missing it as could not see anything about Dave's aspirations or how keen supporters might help. I got the picture that plans are to get the shop up and running but could not get a hold on future direction or how WD will position itself going forwards. Seems to me there is a significant customer base that could be capitalised on to help Dave and his team over the first year or two which is always a difficult period for what is going to be a new business venture. In terms of future roadmap possibly the best source of research could be forum members. There is clearly a wealth of knowledge. Most companies would pay hugely just for the opportunity to have such access to their customers thinking. I did spot a suggestion to ping existing members about the changes which seemed sensible to me as it may help to drive traffic and trade. Just a humble thought as I have not been around on these pages for a while and as you say probably have missed the key threads somewhere else in the forums.

@ Revoli

Hi all....

I too would like some kind of roadmap as to WD plans for the future. I needed to source several hundred quids worth of parts to finish a mates and my own projects off. Unfortunately, Dave "does not have access to all the info about the kit designs", or I am sure he would have provided the info to me when I asked him for his help..... but I got nothing, nada, zip. Even after telephoning him, all he could say is what's on the web site is what we have got. If we don't have it, but are planning to stock it the date at the bottom of the items page will tell you when it will be available. It's just a shame I am a professional and have customers who need everything yesterday. I can't keep them waiting forever......

I don't think it's fair to forum members, to be giving their time, knowledge, expertise and tech support for free, but can't get info from the owner.... Seems a bit one sided to me.... In fact im so dissapointed with the whole situation I think I will give up on coming here.....

That's a bit harsh mate !

I do agree though that Dave could have a bit more of a "presence" on the Forum.

For example, the fact he made no comment on Revolis post did surprise me.

I sent Dave a PM a while ago asking about a specific item and he did not even have the common courtesy to reply. To me, that is rude.

A lack of interest in the Diy Community perhaps as time goes by with no response or lack of help from the WD team them members will move on and build their own designs as most of us do anyway

It goes without saying (I hope) that no criticism was intended, or implied towards Richard or Dr John who (to me) make this forum one to visit on a regular basis.

And me
I like this forum and the great help I have had from Richard and Dr John as well as most of the other members on there I continue to support the WAD Forum But my interest in WAD as a Diy Valve audio Supplier is fading as a lack of support or interest from the WAD team in helping its members

I too have much respect for the forum and it's members. I think such a great resource as this is a rare and special thing...

However,
I have "customers" with WD projects who need parts and etc. If the customer thinks this is always the way that WD do business then I am afraid they will take their custom and their cash elsewhere. Two of them have started The 3 series kits with phono and PSU, one needed a couple of PSU and myself and another need transformer sets for HD3. Both he and I were planning to have all the kit phono3 pre3 psu3 HD3 and for him possibly a kit for EL84 or the kt88 kit. Other kit would surely have followed for all of them.....
Thats a lot of potential revenue for WD, but as one of my customers said a few days ago "There are plenty other decent valve kit manufacturers who will be only to happy to make a sale in these hard times....."
Guess he won't be buying WD again....
