Glasshouse passive pre
I been thinking abut a passive pre again, I built one last year but I wasn't impressed with it but I do like the idea,
Glasshouse have just released this one which looks like it might be quite good http://www.hificollective.co.uk/kits...househome.html does anybody have any thoughts?

Try as I might, David, I can't find anything other than your splendid Glasshouse 300b!

Re: Glasshouse passive pre
Hi David,
Certainly if I was in the market for a passive pre, this kit would be a likely choice as the components used are the sort I would choose for a scratch build. Then again, I'd not bother with the stepper because I think an psuedo shunt Alps Blue sounds as good (I have one of these stepper switches). The Elma selector is good. I use one in my WAD Pre II. Although component quality is good, £235 seems alot for what you're getting to me. Obviously if you want a nice aesthetic case that could sway the decision, but if you already have a case, I'd try pricing up the individual componts first and see if there is a more economical route. Remember Wires Co. for your silver wire. http://www.wires.co.uk/ Best wishes, Greg |

Re: Glasshouse passive pre
thanks Greg
this is always the problem, adding up the items involved it doesn't seem worth it, but I do like the case

Re: Glasshouse passive pre
Actually looks very good, and should work very well also,in the vein of the AS Passion passive pre, albeit with not quite the same internals.
It would be very interesting to put one up against something like that to see how well it performs....with mine, you can easily tell the difference between it,and something the Creek passive pre which uses a motorised Alps pot AFAIK. |

Re: Glasshouse passive pre
Well I have tried and tried and tried again going through Nick's website aswell as going straiight to the page you cited David, and the others have no trouble with.
So, I have to take this personally. Someone in cyberspace doesn't like me! |

Re: Glasshouse passive pre
sorry again Andrew,
perhaps you'd better nip round to Nick and see it in the flesh personally I've never seen the value in the Passion pre, they seem vastly over priced for what the are, I would have thought this would have stood up very well against them

The most important part of the job though is to select the right value attenuator, 10k, 50k, 100k or 250k and I can't see the one I need listed there - 20k. Rich |
