KT88 Output Transformer

Hi there,

Trying to get my KT88(same as the KiT88) back up and running and will need to replace one of the output transformers. Would anyone have the spec of the transformer, any reference to a part number so that a new one could be ordered, or even better, a spare one that I could purchase from them?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hopefully someone will have a spare to sell you. If not you could try the original makers.

The design number is D8658 (check yours) made by Ripley, now Grandchain, http://www.grandchain.co.uk/

I think I have an original pair of these, used but should be in good working order. I'll need to have a rumage in the garage to find them. I would only want to sell them as a pair as to be left with just one would be useless to me. Let me know if you are interested.

Thank you for the prompt response and the information. It's not the first time you've helped me out, you sent me some schematics a number of years back.

I'll see if Greg can dig up his spare pair of OPTs before getting in contact with grandchain.

I'll have a look in the garage tomorrow and report back in the evening. Obviously don't want to hold you up on this. You could of course do a tentative inquiry with Grandchain to see if they are able to supply just in case I'm not able to help you.

I've had a hunt but at present I can't find the spare pair of KiT/KaT88 O/P transformers. I'm sorry. I know I've got them somewhere and if I locate them I'll give you a shout. It's years since I stripped them from a spare amp and haven't set eyes on them ages.

Greg, there were a few of us who fitted big Sowters to our Kit88s and will have had the original OPTXs spare. Are you still in touch with them these days?

Does anyone know the primary Impedance of the D8658. Or for those of you who replaced them with Sowters, which one was used?
