Surface Technology - Aberdeen
Site 14, Greenbank Rd East Tullos Aberdeen AB12 3BQ Scotland Tel: +44 (0)1224 515320 Appears to be on the south edge of Aberdeen. This is not a personal recommendation - just the first one I found in a few seconds on google. |

Re: Advice on Panting speaker stands
They may need to be stripped back to metal if originally powder coated, then new powder coat applied, might be easier to just rattle can and lacquer them. I know this from experience with some old Mission speaker stands.

Re: Advice on Panting speaker stands
Most powder coaters will have their own paint striping plant or they contract out to another firm. Sorry Nigel, but rattle can paint is very poor compared to powder. Bob

Re: Advice on Panting speaker stands
Yes Bob, I am well aware of the benefits and finish of powder coating, but Colin needs to consider the cost involved, stripping/blasting isn’t cheap plus re coating as well, it would probably be cheaper to just buy another set of stands on the second hand market.
I have also refurbished stands just using cans and the results have been excellent, you just need to take your time and spray in several light coats, the preparation is the most important part of the process. It can be done successfully. Nigel |

Re: Advice on Panting speaker stands
Indeed. This isn’t a vintage vehicle restoration. Your stands, Colin look to have a good paint cover albeit just a little discoloured. The existing finish will be a good foundation for a couple of coats of spray paint. I’ve had excellent results on speaker stands in the past using satin black Plastikote, readily available from Tool Station, Wicks, B&Q and Amazon. You can have them looking like new for under £20.

Yes, I've had great results with Halfords acrylic Satin Black spray over powder coated equipment stands. You shouldn't need an undercoat but de-grease the stands first Col with white spirit and detergent as the white patches may be spray polish which may cause fish-eye in paint. An alternative to spray, particularly on wider flat parts, is to brush the corners then use a 4" fine pile gloss roller on the large parts. I've done this on panels using Rustins and International Satin Black where 250ml goes a long way and gives a roller finish similar to spray or better as it stays wet longer and flows better as it takes longer to dry |
